polemic | Metal Man
Following his city’s destruction, Metal Man responds to concerned followers, urging them to imagine a differently ordered society
“For now, I guess, we’re forced to experience life in deadly disarray. And there’s no one around to blame, or who’d understand, anyway | When even our sense of ‘self’ is caught up in something else: caught up inside the ‘gods’— of Mammon & Industry. And yet somehow we didn’t deserve a thing!?
And if after this we’re leaderless, let’s remain leaderless, for once.
I mean, how could it possibly be in any way worse for me? You speak as if we lay claim to something we can sustain. as though you exist between the world and a waking dream. Like cognitive philistines, you live only marginally— ever at the periphery!
So if after this we’re leaderless, let’s remain leaderless, for now.”

“They built an altar on the ground | And in my rage I tore it down | The age of monoliths has run aground | The strong cast shadows on the wheel | persuading all to kindly kneel | But our founding moment must be ours alone “
